Overview of the Marmolada, known as the Queen of the Dolomites
DESCRIPTION
One morning in July 2010, I had set out to photograph the enormous ridge of the Marmolada. So, after leaving my car near Lake Fedaia (2,054 m), I began climbing the slope opposite the Marmolada, which leads up to the Padon mountain hut (2,407 m). A steep ascent that crosses the route of what is a ski slope in winter. A sunlit slope where numerous marmots were resting at the edges of their burrows. As I climbed the slope, the enormous ridge of the Marmolada came into view more and more clearly, resembling the spine of a dinosaur. I took several photos, including this one.
Sixteen years later, it is striking to see how much the glacier has retreated.
