Aerial drone view of the Mammelloni and Carpineti Castle
Aerial drone view of the Mammelloni and Carpineti Castle

DESCRIPTION
Aerial view from a drone of a distinctive ridge in the Emilian Apennines. The route follows a section of the historic Spallanzani trail, which passes through unique rock formations known as Mammelloni—large spheroids that emerge in some exposed areas amidst the vegetation. Further into the photograph, you can see the Castello delle Carpinete, also known as the Castello di Carpineti, and the Church of Sant’Andrea, located in the Reggio Apennines. This ancient castle, once part of Matilde di Canossa’s domains where she hosted Pope Gregory VII, stands on the ridge of Mount Antognano. Only an aerial shot can capture the full extent of the ridge with its distinctive rock formations.
Exceptionally, just to give a sense of scale in the photograph, my son Manu in the red T-shirt and I, piloting the drone in the blue one, among the decidedly exposed Mammelloni hills.
