ASSOULINE - The Classics Collection

ASSOULINE creates luxury artisanal works, including books of the highest quality. Cortina d'Ampezzo is the latest volume to join the Classics Collection. Written by Massimo Nava and published in late 2025. Cortina d'Ampezzo, known worldwide as the "Queen of the Dolomites," is not just a town situated in a valley surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. Tourism in Cortina, frequented by prominent international figures, took root and flourished, and the 1956 Olympics established it as an icon. This year, the 2026 Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics are bringing it back into the global spotlight.

One of my photographs was used as a full-page image in this high-quality volume.

MY PHOTOGRAPH

The photograph of mine used for this publication is titled "Five Little Men." I took it on July 23, 2013, in the Dolomites of the Cortina d'Ampezzo basin using a long focal length. As I scanned the mountains through my telephoto lens, I noticed five small men crossing a small snowfield in a gully like tiny ants. Looking through the viewfinder of my SLR, it felt as though I were witnessing a scene from a century ago, so I chose to capture it in black and white. You can see the image below.
