Fiery sunset from Oclini Pass after the summer storm
DESCRIPTION
At the end of a day of bad weather, I climbed to Passo Oclini (1,989 m) with my wife Stefania to wait for the sunset. We set off on the trail that circles Corno Bianco, feeling a bit uncertain about the weather. Luck was on our side, and aside from a few drops, it didn’t rain; the air was cool at 10° with a nice brisk breeze. We waited, in the company of a herd of grazing cows, for the sky to change, looking all around us. At first, the last light of day illuminated the Enrosadira on the surrounding Dolomite cliffs. Then it seemed all was over, with the sun having set some time ago; but we waited a little longer because sometimes something unpredictable happens after sunset. That’s exactly what happened that evening: in another direction, the sky turned fiery red over the mountain, almost as if it were an active volcano. Higher up, the sky—the true star of the evening—remained mostly ominous.
