DESCRIPTION
What could humanity possibly do that would be sufficient in return for having received Nature as a gift? The answer has always seemed obvious to me, but judging by what we actually get up to, I fear I haven’t understood a thing. Given that we cannot reciprocate on the same level—we are incapable of creating such beauty and variety of situations—it has always seemed at the very least natural to be grateful for the environment. It allows us to exist, to move, to have experiences, to get to know ourselves, and above all, to be filled with wonder.
Nature, which is our mother—without invoking various deities—places us within a system infinitely larger and more complex than ourselves, in which we cannot help but recognize how small we are. And despite our insignificance, this entire environment is given to us as a gift, without asking for anything in return, like a marvelous and extraordinarily diverse universe.
I believe that Nature invites us to find silence within ourselves, to put our swirling and often pointless thoughts on hold so we can pause for a moment to contemplate such beauty. And when we’re ready, when we feel in harmony with our surroundings, we can finally immerse ourselves in it.
