The Dolomites and the magic of foliage at Lake Braies
The Dolomites and the magic of foliage at Lake Braies

DESCRIPTION
What really makes a landscape fascinating? Certainly a nice view with interesting subjects are a good start. Lake Braies in the photograph with the great Croda del Becco towering over it is certainly a photogenic place if you can call it that. But how to go beyond the usual postcard that everyone makes?
In landscape photography, and even more so in mountain scenery photography, it is the atmosphere of a place that one should try to capture. As when in order to make a good portrait, one must bring out the personality and character of the subject beyond its form.
The weather conditions, the wind or its absence, the threatening clouds, the incoming air of rain, a livid light as only autumn can give, the forests lit by foliage and the high peaks whitened by the first snow. It takes giving oneself time to find the best conditions that reveal the deep character of a place.
And sometimes the magic happens and we witness for just a moment this unveiling of Nature.
