DESCRIPTION
There are moments that cannot be put into words, not even if you were to write a 1,000-page book. This image captures one of those moments that took place nearly 11 years ago in Bressanone and vanished in the blink of an eye. Andy Lewis, Felix Brunner, and Tamara Lunger are on stage at the IMS—International Mountains Summit. The evening event has ended; the audience, having finished the conference, is heading home happily. But then Andy literally jumps into Felix’s arms, and Felix catches and supports him. Andy playfully acts like a baby, putting his finger to his mouth, which makes Felix burst out laughing. Tamara, standing next to them, makes a dramatic gesture as if to say, “These guys aren’t right in the head.”
This is one of the many beautiful and authentic moments that the IMS has given me and so many others.
I’d kept this photo to myself for many years, but then I realized that wasn’t right.
Looking at it again today hurts a little, knowing that Andy passed away just a few days ago; but as I look at it, beyond the tear that inevitably rolls down my cheek, the power of positivity prevails.
That desire to be together, to share our stories and listen to others’, to joke around, and to appreciate life for every joy it gives us each day.
