DESCRIPTION
The Matterhorn, also known as the Grande Becca or Cervino, stands at 4,478 m and is one of the most beautiful and iconic mountains in the world. It rises in the Eastern Alps on the border between Italy and Switzerland, with the towns of Cervinia (Breuil) and Zermatt situated at its base, respectively. Mountaineering has written historic—and often dramatic—chapters on the sheer walls of this immense, vertically rising rock face. In February 1965, the great Walter Bonatti wrote an unforgettable chapter in history by making a solo winter ascent of the north face: a masterpiece that marked his farewell to mountaineering.
But you don’t have to be a mountaineer or a climber to be captivated by the shape of this mountain, which compels you to look up at it.
Just a few kilometers away, Lago Blu is a small body of water in Valtournenche that offers a natural setting and, on windless days, a perfect mirror in which to admire the great Becca.
