DESCRIPTION
On the small pier at Lido di Ostia on the Roman coast, the day has long since ended. On a windy day in early January 2008, a light rain falls in bursts and penetrates my bones. Only the halogen bulbs of a few streetlights pierce the night and reveal the edges of the pier. I’ve been here for hours under the pretext of taking some photographs: but in reality, what I’m looking for is a place to be alone with my thoughts. The cold and the bad weather discourage everyone, and soon after sunset I’m left alone. I look more closely in the darkness and catch sight of a couple of pairs who haven’t left and, like me, seem indifferent to the inhospitable weather. They are in love: they hold each other close, talk, and kiss. Although in reality we are only a few meters apart, it is as if we were on different planets. They are unreachable in their perfect bubble, rightly indifferent to everything else.I place my SLR on the pier railing and take a long exposure: a full 22 seconds.
