The perfect reflection of the Dolomites in Lake Braies
The perfect reflection of the Dolomites in Lake Braies

DESCRIPTION
Everyone knows Lake Braies now, after a TV series made it iconic over the last decade. Even though I knew it before all that, when I close my eyes and imagine it in my mind, I think of a stilt house overlooking a large lake closed off on the opposite side by a large rock face. All in all, it seems to be the photograph that everyone who visits it wants to take. But when a place is so well known, it immediately makes me want to look for original viewpoints and unusual shots to discover little-known aspects of it visually.
So, in October 2014, my wife and I took a trip around the lake on a weekday when we were almost alone. The foliage in the woods was rich and the weather was perfect: clear skies and no wind at all. From below the vertical wall of Croda del Becco, I took this photograph with an extreme wide-angle lens, framing the stilt house and hotel, which are so small as to be non-existent. So I used the mirror-like surface of Lake Braies to obtain a perfect reflection of the Dolomites on both sides of the lake.
