The curious wild horse sniffing the photographer
DESCRIPTION
During a hike in the Emilian Apennines on an unusually mild late November morning, I notice a horse on a grassy slope. I stopped to watch it from a distance without disturbing it. I had my SLR camera and all my photography equipment in my backpack, but I decided not to make any sudden movements. To my surprise, it slowly approached me, grazing a little and then coming even closer. It seemed calm and not threatening, with no herd behind it to defend. In a couple of minutes, it reaches me, then approaches and sniffs my hands holding my cell phone with its muzzle. I just have time to set a short focal length and take a couple of photos with its nostrils practically on my hands. Then I reach out and place my hand on its muzzle, it gets a cuddle and then walks away again.
