VIA DEGLI DEI - How to tackle the route from Bologna to Florence

On RUNNER'S WORLD in the News section, a special feature dedicated to the Via degli Dei has been published. The route leads from Bologna to Florence along a path that winds for 130 km with over 4,000 m of elevation gain in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Having become one of the most popular trails in Italy, it is divided into 5 or 6 stages.

One of my photographs was also used to illustrate the article; it shows the landscape visible from the crest of the Pliocene Contrafforte on the Emilian Apennine ridge.

THE PHOTO

I took this photograph after climbing the ridge of the Pliocene Spur that overlooks the valley of Sasso Marconi. I framed the shot facing west, capturing the middle and upper Emilian Apennines, dominated in the center by the pyramidal shape of the Monte Cimone, still blanketed in snow, the highest peak in this section of the Apennines (2,165 m).
