San Giulio Island and Orta San Giulio on Lake Orta
DESCRIPTION
The island of San Giulio is the only one in Lake Orta and lies directly in front of the town of Orta San Giulio. Despite its small size (275 x 140 m), it is a colorful little gem that enhances the landscape. The Basilica of San Giulio and the Mater Ecclesiae Abbey stand on the island. The island can be reached in just a few minutes by boat from Orta San Giulio.
To capture this panoramic view of the island and Orta San Giulio, I had to make my way to the scenic Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso on the opposite shore. From this granite outcrop, situated at an elevation of 638 m and overlooking the western shore of Lake Orta, there is a panoramic view of the lake. Using a 300 mm telephoto lens, I captured this scene in the late afternoon of a spring day.
