The goalkeeper's dive into the snow on the suburban pitch
The goalkeeper's dive into the snow on the suburban pitch

DESCRIPTION
The suburbs of cities have always been places where everything is precarious and nothing is defined. Microworlds in which people with very different histories and cultures often struggle to coexist. Peripheral places that is, on the margins of what is the identity of a center. We could say that the peripheries are undefined by definition. Everything is a bit precarious in these places, even public places of recreation or places of worship.
In this photograph the suburbs of Modena my city taken a few years ago.
On a winter day after a heavy snowfall a small, shabby suburban soccer field consisting only of a couple of goals with broken nets. In the background the collapsed wall of the monumental San Cataldo cemetery offers a view of the graves from outside. It's all very precarious in this place, but that doesn't stop the boys' desire to play even on a cold morning.
Just get between the posts to feel like a goalkeeper, pretend an angled ball is coming so you have an excuse to dive into the snow ... and have fun.
