Cimon della Pala in the clouds in black and white
Cimon della Pala in the clouds in black and white

DESCRIPTION
At 3,184 m and with its distinctive shape, Cimon della Pala is the most famous and iconic peak of the Pale di San Martino range in the Dolomites. Due to its distinctive shape, it is nicknamed the “Matterhorn of the Dolomites.” One of the most fascinating aspects of the Pale di San Martino, which dominate the Rolle Pass, is the persistent cloud cover that lingers around the upper reaches of the peaks. It is truly a rare treat to be able to admire Cimon, in particular, free of clouds. Personally, I find the peaks that emerge from a blanket of clouds much more fascinating, as they continuously reveal and conceal walls, rocks, and slopes. I captured this image from the forest clearings near Paneveggio.
